Our Thoughts

Our mind & our results

For many of us, we have heard it said that our mind is very powerful. We have heard that we can accomplish a lot more if we can change our mindset. Often times when we hear these statements, they seem to make sense but we don’t think much about them. The fact is, these are not empty words, our mind really is very powerful and it always sets the direction of our lives.

There are two parts of the mind, the Conscious Mind and the Subconscious Mind. The conscious mind is known as our thinking mind. It gets information from our five physical senses which are seeing, hearing, tasting, touching and smelling. The subconscious mind is also known as the emotional mind, our beliefs and expectations are stored in here. Wrong beliefs can be dangerous because they signify the truth to the person who holds them. Consequently, they shape up our actions and since our actions determine our results, wrong beliefs hence shape the results that we produce in our lives.

Our subconscious mind is 1000 times more powerful than our conscious mind but it is also influenced by the conscious mind. The information that comes to the conscious mind through our physical senses begins to influence our subconscious mind over time. Therefore, if we want to control our results, it's absolutely imperative that we control what kind of information comes into our minds; both the conscious and unconscious.

Here is an example to put it in perspective; when an overweight man wills himself to go on a diet, and if he does not change his subconscious desire for over eating, eventually his subconscious mind will win. He will gain back the weight he lost. In other words, if we only change our actions without changing our expectations and beliefs, then our results will always be temporary. We see examples like this in many aspects of lives.

A good quote by Charlie Tremendous Jones, speaker and author sums it up well, "The difference between where you are now and where you will be 5 years from now will be determined by the books you read and the people you associate yourself with." The key to controlling our mind and controlling our results lies in continuously engaging ourselves in a process of personal development through books, audio programs, educational videos and positive associations.

Here is a question for you to think about: What kind of information are you currently continually exposing yourself to and do you think it has impacted your thinking?
